Golf courses
Aroeira No. 1 is the classic course at the Resort and was opened in 1973 with design by Frank Pennink. The course is set in a beautiful and tranquil wooded area with tall pine trees, which creates a unique atmosphere and demands precision from the tee.
The course has built a strong reputation over the years and has hosted the Portuguese Open, which is testament to its quality and layout. From the back tee, the course measures up to approximately 6,044 meters and offers a classic parkland experience where strategy and course management are crucial for a good score.
One of the course’s most remarkable holes is hole 8, a long par 3 of around 190 meters. It requires a solid shot to a sloping green that drops sharply to the left and is protected by a large bunker on the right side. It’s a hole that is both challenging and memorable.
Aroeira No. 1 is a course perfectly suited for golfers who appreciate classic design, beautiful surroundings and a fair but challenging golf experience.
Aroeira No. 2 is the newer of the two courses and was opened in 2000, designed by renowned architect Donald Steel. Where No. 1 is classic and wooded, No. 2 offers a more modern golf experience with open areas, more water hazards and a more varied layout.
The course winds elegantly through the landscape with several lakes in play, creating both visual variety and strategic challenges. From the back tee, the course measures up to approximately 6,367 meters and with multiple tee locations, it is suitable for players of all levels.
One of the highlights is hole 11, where you tee off from an elevated tee to a narrow fairway surrounded by trees. The hole turns slightly left and requires a precise drive to get the right angle to the green, which is protected by both water and bunkers. It’s a beautiful and challenging hole where strategy and accuracy are key.
Aroeira No. 2 is an exciting contrast to No. 1 and provides a more open and dynamic golf experience where variety and challenge go hand in hand.
